Teaching Notes

Differences from regular (6-string) guitars?
‘The spots are your friends!’
Rest strokes sound different from free strokes, so walking through the strings and no ‘bows and arrows’!
Positional play means one-finger-per-fret starting from ‘position’ fret, but still requires subtle hand adjustment to get fingers up to frets.
Timeline aspect and orientation of TAB (read left-to-right with strings as you see them, ie nearest string on the TAB = nearest of the guitar).

Simple Blues/Rock Bass 1 (site download).

Single line TAB for single string may be easier introduction for some, so consider:

5-5-4-4-|5-5-7-7-

before:

----4-4-|5-5-7-7-
5-5-----|--------

and:

5-4-5-6-|7-5-4-5-

before:

--4-5-6-|7-5-4---
5-------|------5-

etc.
