The Concepts Glossary that used to form the bulk of our yellow 'Course Book' is downloadable in Word format (300KB file) from http://www.ltscotland.org.uk/Images/ListeningConceptsGlos_tcm4-302762.doc.
While we have many useful resources in school that you should get to know and use (some of which should eventually get listed on this site), we can't compete with the internet for sheer quantity! Please note that everything recommended here is free, useful and legal (we wouldn't be suggesting it if it wasn't), but much of it requires a broadband Internet connection...
Currently funded by Learning and Teaching Scotland and specifically aimed at SQA Music candidates, with revision materials, quizzes, tests, exam-style questions and NAB-style 'exam's at all levels from Access 3 to Advanced Higher. Requires Flash.
Please note that problems with some exercises (notably the Literacy questions) have recently come to light and we cannot currently (April 2010) recommend these as reliable without further checking.
Developed by Learning and Teaching Scotland from the same source as musiclisteningrevision.co.uk and providing related, but not identical, content. Requires Flash.
Another very useful Learning and Teaching Scotland resource with information, MIDI files, MP3s and PDFs to illustrate Scottish Music concepts at Standard Grade, Access 3 and Intermediate 1/2 levels.
Another recording company-backed site with a huge amount of information, glossary and free subscriber option allowing you to listen to 25% of every Naxos track online.
With both musical works and typography remaining copyright for 50 or 70 years (depending on country) beyond the death of their last surviving author, you won't find the following sites full of recent rock music. But they're very useful for the historical musical periods we study (eg Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic and the earlier Twentieth Century) and, the higher the level of your music course, the more useful you're likely to find them:
The IMSLP / Petrucci Music Library has been online since February 2006 and already contains more then 35,000 scores.
While the Choral Public Domain Library has been going longer (since December 1998), it's not quite so big. But it's still the obvious place to go for those Madrigals, Masses and Motets!
A really nicely thought-out and useful site for the guitarists.
